When one of my grandsons underwent over 20 hours of surgery over multiple weeks to remove a tumor in his face and neck at Texas Children's Hospital, the hospital did everything it could to make life easier for us, his parents and his siblings, while keeping him safe. As an urgent patient at Texas Children's Hospital, my grandson had virtually no wait time for appointments and surgery. His first appointment was within 14 hours after his tumor was discovered in Nacogdoches, Texas. In four weeks, he saw multiple specialists multiple times, was operated on during a holiday weekend, was operated on in the middle of the week, and was never kept waiting for life-saving care. The doctors, at Texas Children's Hospital, saved his life. The hospital is clean and well-maintained. Valet parking is validated (free) on surgery days. On other days, valet parking was $13. During surgery, there are lounges where the family can get free coffee, tea, and snacks. There is a Ronald McDonald House on site, for discount lodging. Recommended! (Note: My grandson rotated through three separate buildings at Texas Children's Hospital, but all are connected into one huge medical complex).

Update: My grandson Eedan is at Wallace Tower, for a follow-up appointment at Ophthalmology. As usual, the staff was fantastic, and the building was clean.

Update: I am at the Wallace Tower again this morning, with two grandchildren for two appointments. The line for the COVID screening questions, to be told "no weapons in the building", to get masks and to get wristbands are extremely long and unnecessary. It's frustrating to wait in line with people who 99.9-percent of the time never wear masks and who wouldn't report any COVID symptoms or weapons on their person, which would keep them from getting necessary medical care, to enter the building. If Texas Children's Hospital insists on throwing up this additional barrier to prompt medical care, they need to have more than two people processing patients and their families when the line wraps around the lobby.

Note: If you are not the parent or legal guardian of a minor, Texas Children's Hospital now requires a separate dated note, from a parent or legal guardian, for every appointment, whether or not the original note says that it's in effect until revoked.

Friendly, helpful. they are great with my son. Don't mind that I take all my kids. The wait time is not too bad. I arrived early, so it took a while. They have valet.. which for me is great. I hate having to find somewhere to park.

the desk attendant in Wallace tower surgery area early 2/29 was EXTREMELY rude and unfriendly…. No hi, good morning… just you can’t just wander around … you have to be checked in. We told her we were just waiting for our daughter to come out so we could sit with her during baby’s surgery. She said you can’t stay on this floor… you have to go to 3. I hope she doesn’t ever have a child or grandchild having surgery…. A little kindness and compassion for everyone would be nice. If you hate your job that much you need to leave.

Dr Faith Ihekweazu is an incredible doctor. She is so caring and understanding. My daughter is going to receive the best care from her team at Texas Children's.

Have had children's dental surgery there and I completely recommend this facility. Everyone brings their A game here. Use the vallet. Your child could not be in better hands.

Pretty horrible. Paid parking, for a hospital, let alone a children’s hospital? Come on now. You already take hundreds of thousands from us and you want to be petty and charge us for parking here? Wait time is disappointing and also after you’re done, the nurse or staff at the desk gives you a date and time and doesn’t care about asking if those dates and time works for you. I wouldn’t bring my child back here, go elsewhere!!

I'm not impressed. Everyone talks up Texas children's, but I think it may be over hyped. My wife and I were treated like what felt like inmates instead of guests and parents. They never informed us of anything such as parking, food and beverages for my wife and son or any patient care outside of the operation itself.

Security staff was extremely rude, I felt like we were in a jail more than in a caring environment. My wife felt as if she couldn't even leave the room without being questioned by security. She left the room to get a drink, leaving her wallet in the room with our son. Upon returning from down the hallway security asked for her license which was in the room. Instead, they forced her to stand in front of a wall and take her picture "for records". Whenever my son received his food, it was ice cold. I would've expected way more than this.

The GI Dr ordered 7 tubes of blood from my child and didn't tell us. He just sent us to get blood work done at the lab. I found out when I asked the nurse if it was just one tube he ordered, because I wanted to assure my anxious child that it was ok. When she let us know how many he ordered, I asked if that many was normal to order and she assured us it was. It was a bad experience and several Drs had to come in and check on my child. On top of all that, before we headed to the lab the GI Dr basically criticized us for not getting a certain vaccine, which is optional by the way. I will never take my child here again.
